Types of Work Permits in Canada

Navigating the various work permit options can be complex. Unifyworld simplifies the process by helping you identify the most suitable pathway for your profile.

01

Temporary Work Permits:

Issued for a specific employer and duration, usually supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) confirming the need for a foreign worker.

02

Open Work Permits:

Not employer-specific and do not require an LMIA. Available under programs such as:

  • International Experience Canada (IEC)

  • Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP)

  • Spousal or partner work permits

03

Work Permits for International Graduates (PGWP)

Allows international students who completed eligible programs in Canada to work for up to three years, gaining valuable Canadian experience.

04

Intra-Company Transfer Work Permits

Designed for employees transferring within multinational companies to a Canadian branch, subsidiary, or affiliate.

05

Work Permits under International Agreements

Available through trade and mobility agreements that allow eligible workers to work in Canada without an LMIA.

06

Bridging Open Work Permits (BOWP)

Enables applicants to continue working in Canada while awaiting a final decision on their permanent residence application.

From Canada Work Permit to Permanent Residency
